Hi - greetings from Sweden
I was considering buying a canatronic light system, but as you probably know electrical plugs are quite different over here, is it ok to use an adapter for a 600W lamp for example?
Another (stupid) question, is it strictly necessary to use socket with earth when connecting a hps lamp? Iknow most of you will say yes, but is there a workaround? I live in an apartment where only kitchen devices have earth, and I'm not planning to grow in my kitchen, the rest of the wall sockets have no earth. Should I just drop the idea of using high-power lighting system?

i dont mean to intrude in the forums,
but personally, I Would NEVER run a 600watt without earth.
As with Kitchen appliances that prefer/require the safety of ground wire,
so would a 600watt bulb, as theres Alot of "power" goin on when these lights turn on,
and if for any strange reason (ie. a surge which could be quite possible in an apartment building without "earth") i would fear for my investments and the crop growing under it.

I live in a house now, but back in College days i grew tastey vegetable in my closet under CFL´s.
With a fan, and regular aireating, they produce much less heat. Though still, we could easyly be talking about 500watts for 2 good bulbs.

So my long answer short.

Some people have rigged them anyhow & everything went fine,
as for me: You couldnt pay me to not be earthed.

Thank you very much for your answer. You are of course 100% right
I will never run a 600W without connecting to Planet Earth
The room where I'm planning to grow tomatoes would necessitate a 60 feet cord from ballast to lamp in order to be earth connected. Is that ok or is it too far away?

TonsOfTomatoes....Please don't feel you are intruding my friend. Your input is very welcome here!
Fabius,
The plugs you have in Sweden are Euro plugs. They do have an earth but it is built into the plug rather than attached to separate pin like in the UK.
The Eco-Lite is perfectly suitable for use there by using an adapter.
You can extend the distance between the ballast and the reflectors by up to 20 meters using these extension leads: http://www.progrow.co.uk/acatalog/Light ... html#a4946
Hope this help!
